The nutritionist will be responsible for supporting Chartwells with the delivery of nutrition education for employees, clients, and consumers across state, independent and higher education sites across the Midlands. The nutritionist will engage with key stakeholders and will translate complex nutrition information into simple messages relating to food and health. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering our internal award-winning food and nutrition education programme to all year groups in all schools across the region.

  • Engaging with parents to promote school meals and to support with queries.

  • Working in partnership with schools to support a whole school approach to wellbeing and school food

  • Supporting projects within Chartwells social value and wellbeing promise.

  • Working closely with different operations teams to provide information required to meet KPIs of contract with regards to added value delivery

  • Building relationships with local Public Health teams

  • Work closely with the medical diets team during menu changes, creating menus for children with allergies and intolerances.

  • Support the delivery of the sustainability roadmap/strategy in the region.

The nutritionist will support the food offer with knowledge of legislation around food and nutrition including the Food Information Regulations. The nutritionist will write articles and case studies to help showcase successful initiatives that the Nutrition Team have executed. The nutritionist will be responsible for completing training and development courses which will enhance their CPD and support their registration with the Association for Nutrition.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attending sites on a daily basis across the midlands

  • Delivering nutrition education sessions to a wide variety of audiences

  • Supporting holiday feeding programmes (HAF) during the school holidays.

  • Support community projects with Chartwells charity partner Feeding Britain.

  • Communicating nutrition information through posters, blogs, and website posts

  • Work alongside operators and marketing teams to increase engagement.

  • Provide expert knowledge of legislation around food and nutrition.

  • Ensure compliance to legislation in all sites.

  • Review menus and provide feedback on the nutritional content of the offer

  • Support sales presentations

  • Working closely with catering managers and area managers

  • Deliver training to catering teams and schools on nutrition and allergens.

  • Write and check a wide range of medical diet menus for pupils with allergies and intolerances.

  • Ensuing FIR regulations are met by providing up to date allergy information.

  • Managing day to day parent, pupil and client queries surrounding medical diets.

  • Attending parent and client meetings regarding medical diet provision.

  • Maintaining medical diet information throughout our in-house menu management systems.

  • Manage sensitive pupil allergy information in an organised manner, always ensuring confidentiality.

  • Supporting schools with sustainability projects such as food waste management, bumblebee conservation trust and carbon footprint of menus.

Person Specification

  • Graduate of an accredited nutrition degree

  • Currently living in the Midlands, near Birmingham or willing to relocate.

  • Confident in communicating to large groups of people and controlling challenging meetings/conversations.

  • Confident in delivering nutrition and food education to different audiences.

  • Work experience in the foodservice and nutrition industry would be welcomed.

  • Must hold a driving licence which allows the applicant to drive in the UK from the start date

  • Must be willing to travel (including national travel and overnight stays)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage a busy inbox and work under pressure.

  • Ability to multi-task and excellent organisational skills

  • Demonstrates Compass values and recognition principles.

  • Ability to quickly gain credibility with key stakeholder groups.

  • Professional, presentable, efficient, and self-motivated

  • A passion for keeping up to date with research and national health events.

  • A keen interest in sustainability or qualification would be beneficial.

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Excellent IT skills
