Are you an experienced Habilitation Specialist or a qualified Rehabilitation Worker willing to undertake training? Wandsworth Sensory Support Service (WSSS) supports children and young people with sensory impairment based in Wandsworth. As a Habilitation Specialist, you will be part of a team of 30 staff offering direct support to 700 children and young people with sensory impairment who provide extensive school and home visiting services, emotional support and parent guidance, after school clubs, holiday play schemes, and parent education programmes. Can you apply your developed specialist skills and support those children and young people we support who are visually impaired?

About the role

Caseload Management: You will deliver a comprehensive Habilitation programme for the pupils on your caseload (maximum 40), using your specialist knowledge and experience to maximise their potential for independence and develop their essential life skills; both inside and outside of school.

Regulatory Compliance: You need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of national standards, ensuring strict adherence to maintain a safe and nurturing environment.

Collaboration: You will be working as part of a small, yet highly experienced team committed to providing high quality support to the children and young people across the borough.

Flexibility: The support you provide includes visiting children and young people in their school or home environment as well as routes in between school, home or other areas.

Professional Development: You are passionate about transforming young peoples’ lives, promoting independence and have a desire to develop your career within Special Educational Needs. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • You have proven experience as Habilitation Specialist OR
  • You are a qualified Rehabilitation Worker (who holds the Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Work, Vision Impairment) and are willing to undertake the necessary additional recognised qualifications 
  • Good understanding of the required quality standards for Habilitation.
  • Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people their families and professionals.
  • Experience working with children with vision impairment (highly desirable).
