Why The Works?

We don’t just sell products. We inspire reading, learning, creativity and play.

You sell the paint that turns someone into an artist. You provide the book that unleashes an inner author. You supply the games that help bring families together. You give someone the puzzle book that reconnects someone with a late family member’s memory.

You never know who someone will become. So with your passion, and our products, you will help ignite the spark in helping people unleash their creativity, find new passions, hobbies, or rekindle fond memories.

The unseen possibilities are limitless, and it all starts with you.

And guess what? You’ll also have an ESG Coordinator sidekick as a direct report to help in the green frontier!

Your Mission

  • Net Zero Emissions: Lead the development and delivery of environmental roadmaps to achieve net zero emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
  • Data Excellence: Collaborate with external environmental consultants to improve data quality for Scopes 1, 2, and 3 footprints.
  • Supplier Engagement: Own the Scope 3 supplier engagement approach, educating suppliers on sustainability commitments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental reporting requirements (SECR, TCFD, EPR, WEEE, ESOS) and stay informed about upcoming regulations.
  • Product Compliance: Support Quality Assurance in adhering to product-related regulations (e.g., Deforestation Regulations).
  • Sustainable Practices: Identify opportunities for sustainable changes (packaging reduction, waste minimization, responsible forestry) across teams.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Guide colleagues in embedding sustainability practices throughout the business.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead a sustainability group involving like-minded volunteers from various functions.
  • Education and Engagement: Create resources for colleagues and customers on sustainability topics.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly report progress against targets and objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Line manage an ESG coordinator to achieve collective goals.

Skills/Behaviours That Will Set You Apart

    • Passion Powerhouse: Your positivity is contagious! Whether it’s data analysis or brainstorming sessions, you bring the fire.
    • Office Maestro: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint? You’re a dab hand and can create content and presentations that sparkle.
    • Team Trailblazer: You’re not just a team player; you’re the glue that binds us. Building relationships, leading and mentoring? – You’ve got this.
    • Organizational Wizard: Prioritising tasks? Setting deadlines? You’re the conductor of our sustainability symphony.
    • Time Whisperer: Juggling multiple priorities? No sweat! – You’re used to it!
    • Communication Extraordinaire: Written or spoken, your communication dazzles, influences and captivates audiences through making complicated subjects super easy to understand and buy into.
    • Data Explorer: Dive into numbers, find hidden gems, and make informed decisions. You’re the Sherlock of sustainability.
    • Planet Protector: Customers and the environment – They’re your North Star and at the centre of all your decisions.
    • Problem-Solving Whizz: When life gives you puzzles, you solve them! Realistic solutions? You’ve got the blueprints.
    • Deadline Jedi: Tight deadlines? You thrive and consider them done.

       Being a great leader

As a great leader with wonderful people skills, you’ll create a team that’s more than just co-workers — it’s a team.

        • Inspire and motivate your team in line with our employer brand, values, behaviours and purpose.
        • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other departments.
        • If something’s not quite right, speak up so we can work together to get it right or make it better! – Nobody is too proud for constructive feedback so we all win together!
        • But let’s not forget about the most important part… your team’s well-being and aspirations. You’ll be their biggest supporter, cheering them on. You’ll have amazing everyday conversations with your team, discussing everything from their performance to their wildest career aspirations.
