The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy.  Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

The project has committed to making a substantial positive contribution across a broad front of Environmental, Social and Governance issues creating net positive outcomes against several UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We also have regulatory reporting obligations relating to environmental permitting and sustainable development, data reporting requirements for our BREEAM Infrastructure accreditation (formerly CEEQUAL), and more generally, our stakeholders expect to see clear and transparent reporting of ESG matters.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Sustainability Assurance Manager to lead the Sustainability Assurance Team in monitoring and assuring Sizewell C’s and its supply chain is meeting its sustainability commitments.

The team works in close collaboration with the Finance and Economic Regulation Function, who have responsibility for interfacing with investors, identifying the investor led ESG requirements, and developing the strategy to deliver those investor requirements.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

You’ll lead the development and maintenance of our arrangements to enable compliance with the SZC sustainability and ESG commitments..

This’ll include performing assurance of ESG aspects throughout the project to ensure the commitments are being delivered, and leading the reporting of ESG metrics to a range of stakeholders including in support of our BREEAM Infrastructure Accreditation, as part of our Joint Sustainability Forum with the Environment Agency and to our Finance & Economic Regulation Team to provide to project investors, and input in the Annual Sustainability Report.

As a subject matter expert, you’ll act as a catalyst for management system compliance and continuous improvement over all project phases by influencing actions for sustainable development.

You’ll also be responsible for approving work conducted by HPC and the Supply Chain on behalf of the SZC organisation in support of the Sustainability Assurance scope and objectives.

The Skills

You’ll have excellent working knowledge of sustainability and ESG relevant to construction.

Having a strong understanding of key sustainability issues, preferably with a specialist knowledge of social or environmental issues relevant to construction, is key.

You’ll also need to have a solid technical grounding in environmental compliance, and experience with building relationships with regulators and other external stakeholders.

Ideally you will also be qualified in BREEAM Infrastructure / CEEQUAL Assessments, with some experience of participating, overseeing or delivering the scheme.

If the above sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you!
