Join EDF as a Senior Software Engineer and you will directly contribute towards EDF’s ambition of helping Britain achieve Net Zero.

The UK electricity market is changing at pace, as the country moves towards a zero-carbon energy system and relies more and more on flexible and intermittent generation. EDF must continuously improve our tooling in order to thrive in this market and support this zero-carbon transition.

We are looking for a Full Stack Senior Software Engineer to join an internal development capability. The team provides technical expertise to EDF’s Wholesale Market Services (WMS) Team, particularly our 24/7 Shift Trading Team, creating an exciting and fast-paced environment, with direct interaction with your users.

The opportunity…

As a Senior Software Engineer in WMS, you will provide leadership to a team delivering software features in line with business priorities as well as providing operational IT support activities for the software created.

You will be contributing to a team that operates with agile/iterative delivery practices, working closely with other technologists across the EDF Customers business, sharing best practice with other teams through our Software Engineering Guild.

You will be responsible for providing the technical leadership of a subset of the WMS Applications, under the guidance of the Lead Software Engineer. You will also career manage several Software Engineers, working both on the applications you have technical leadership of and other areas.

Our engineering practice is cloud native for new deliveries, but we also have a responsibility to maintain and re-build some legacy applications. Our core platform centres around AWS and we operate using a landing zone model where each product team is vended a set of AWS accounts to own, manage and operate within – essentially, self-contained.

What we’re looking for…

We’re looking for experienced Full Stack Software Engineers to provide coaching and training to more junior members of the team. Therefore, you will have demonstrable leadership and communication skills, strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build and maintain excellent relationships.

Experience with AWS and programming language such as .NET, Python & React is beneficial but not essential.

If you are an excellent leader with full stack experience, then we would love to hear from you!

Our culture…

Hannah Loebl, Senior Manager, WMS Run Service, says ‘We’re moving all our Shift Trading Tools onto AWS, using a Serverless architecture, ensuring the tools are robust, performant, and really easy to use. This will allow us to take away manual processes from the traders, freeing up their time to improve their trading strategies. We use a combination of Python, .NET and React to build our tools’.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself.  We’re committed to equality, diversity, inclusion.  We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re an equal opportunity and disability confident employer. If you feel comfortable sharing with us that you have a disability, you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we will guarantee you an interview.

We’ll value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed and to feel you belong.
