You will sit at the heart of all key decisions impacting Gross Margin, Market Risk and Settlements, making a significant positive impact on performance, and helping the business to deliver its strategic and financial targets. You will provide the glue that links Finance, Wholesale Market Services (WMS) and Sales and Marketing (SAM).

The opportunity…

You will be supporting, challenging, and advising on strategic and operational decision-making related to Gross Margin, which results in higher, sustainable EBITDA and cash. You will be responsible for providing Gross Margin reporting that adds insight and drives decision making and ensuring that reporting is automated or offshored wherever possible. You will be solely responsible for the accuracy of the monthly forecast for Gross Margin and associated costs and the integrity of the associated Balance Sheet transactions.

Managing the production of the MTP and Light Estimates for Gross Margin and associated costs, providing support and robust challenge to ensure the plans are stretching but achievable and maximise future value for the Customers business.

Leading the design, implementation, and development of EDF (UK) market risk control framework and provide documented, expert, market risk “final opinion” on commercial proposals, ensuring that they meet the desired risk appetite of EDF.

Lead a team which provides expert market risk analysis and reporting, in support of and in challenge to commercial decision making, promoting clarity of understanding of risks and full transparency, while ensuring commercial teams adhere to the approved risk mandate and established control framework. In addition to this, you will also manage a Settlements team that oversee the Settlements activity relating to the payment of industry costs on behalf of EDF.

Providing excellent Business Partnering and decision support services to the teams you’ll be supporting. Ensuring you are at the heart of decision making, you will advise stakeholders on the financial impacts of their activities and provide guidance on how best to achieve their financial and strategic targets.

What we’re looking for…

You will require in depth knowledge of UK energy markets, including wholesale and customer-facing and in depth understanding of the EDF (UK) portfolio of physical and contractual assets. Possess technical knowledge of industry processes and codes (e.g., Balancing and Settlement code) and knowledge of how EDF is structured in the UK, both Supply and Generation.

You will have sound theoretical and practical understanding of risk management methods and techniques and knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Investment appraisal
  • Accounting
  • Planning and forecasting
  • Data analytics
  • Finance systems
  • Process and controls

You will also ideally have an accounting qualification (fully qualified with the ACA/CIMA/ACCA) or have considerable relevant experience. Possessing strong organisational and prioritisation skills, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Our culture…

Alex Perry, Senior Manager – WMS Finance, Market Risk & Settlements, says ‘My favourite part of this role is the variety – each day is different and being responsible for 3 distinct areas (Settlements, Market Risk and WMS Finance) makes this a really interesting role. It’s also a commercially focused role, which has significantly improved my knowledge of the Energy industry – a very useful transferable skill at EDF! The role involves working closely with the WMS Director and his leadership team as their key Finance Business Partner, joining their exec meetings and away days – their inclusive approach makes me feel part of their team, in addition to being a core part of the high-performing Customers Finance Gross Margin team’.
