What’s the scope of the role?
As the Principal Offshore Engineering Manager with the Offshore Technical Centre, you will be responsible for leading and managing the engineering team involved in activities related to the development, refinement, construction, commissioning and operation of offshore wind projects. Responsibilities will primarily be in relation to EDF Renewables UK and Ireland offshore activities, but with the opportunity to provide support to the wider EDF Renewables offshore community across the globe.
What you’ll be doing day to day.
The Principal Offshore Engineering Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Providing leadership to a multi-disciplinary team as they manage the development and delivery of offshore wind farm projects, from initial conception through to handover and operation.
- Ensuring activities are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements and EDF Renewables’ policies including Zero Harm, Quality, Engineering, and Design Management, while focusing on optimisation and efficiency.
- Being part of the Leadership team, particularly for the Offshore Technical Centre and the wider Offshore Wind team.
- Providing Line Management to a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers who specialise on offshore assets and site information.
- Ensuring technical governance is delivered, while achieving an optimum LCOE.
- Driving the identification and sharing of improvements through lessons learned and innovation.
- Developing and maintaining a positive growth culture for the business and the supply chain.
- Support business activities engaging with communities and stakeholders.
- Develop your skills and ability through formal and informal learning, and mentoring others with the same.
What do you need to be great at this role?
Ideally, you will be a engineering manager who has the experience and ability to:
- Be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with a relevant professional body.
- Lead a project’s multi-disciplinary engineering team in the development, refinement, construction and commissioning of offshore wind farms.
- Facilitate collaboration with project and department teams, technical governance and oversight team and Asset Operations teams to drive improvements across engineering.
- Implement processes and procedures, and lead on development of new technical governance systems for use in the offshore wind environment.
- Support projects in discharging their designer duties under the CDM Regulations 2015 in UK and SHWW Construction Regulations 2013 in Ireland.
- Provide technical guidance on ALARP decision making process.
- Implement behavioural based safety.
- Balance the technical need against economic drivers of complex development and delivery projects.
- Provide focussed updates to key stakeholders.
- Identify and drive opportunities for improvement and innovation, as well as managing risks.
- Hold a safety and health qualification from a recognised organisation.
- Create and maintain a one team ethos from a multi-disciplinary matrixed team structure.
- Lead on continuous improvement in an ambition to achieve the best solution.
- Learn from the experiences of others and sharing of relevant learnings.
- Provide clear communication and successful negotiation
- Be proactive and confident.
- Be able travel as required with a valid driving licence and passport.
