What’s the scope of the role?
As Operation and Maintenance Development Engineer – Offshore you will be responsible for the delivery of offshore wind Operations & Maintenance and Asset Management technical scopes of work within the development, construction and operational phases of both floating and fixed offshore wind projects in support of EDF Renewables UK and Ireland offshore wind activities.
The role will sit within the Offshore Wind Portfolio Management Team, which is responsible for driving the long-term strategy of the assets by optimising operational and commercial performance, and reports to the Offshore Portfolio Manager.
You will be an experienced Offshore Wind O&M engineer and be familiar with the design and delivery of complex and multi-disciplined offshore O&M and asset management strategies.
What you’ll be doing day to day.
As Operation and Maintenance Development Engineer – Offshore you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Ensuring O&M and engineering activities across EDF Renewables’ offshore wind portfolio are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements and EDF Renewables’ policies including Health a& Safety, Quality, Engineering and Design Management, while focusing on optimisation and efficiency.
- Ensure that lifetime costs and LCoE are optimised during the origination, design, construction and operational phases.
- Coordination and management of onsite visitors and contractors through site visits, site management and offshore work.
- Coordination of Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design of O&M strategies for Offshore Fixed and Floating Wind Projects.
- Development and management of continuous improvement projects for the operational offshore assets Operation and Maintenance and Asset Management practices.
- Project management and project engineering of O&M innovation projects and trials (e.g. using self-hoisting cranes for main component replacement).
- Act as the main interface with the EDF R&D team, supporting innovation and establishing links to academia and industry forums.
- Technical and commercial availability modelling, including acquiring and processing weather/accessibility data for weather downtime assessments and component failure rates for strategic spares assessments.
- Develop OPEX cost basis and assumptions, and support CAPEX modelling of Offshore Wind development projects.
- Undertake due diligence of Merger and Acquisition opportunities, managing assessment and validation of the O&M data and assumptions.
- Monitoring the Offshore Wind O&M supply chain for developments in vessels and best practice, including building and maintaining an extensive network with peers across the industry.
- Representing EDF Renewables on Offshore Wind O&M Forums (e.g. OREC O&M Forum), acting as the UK point of contact for the EDF Group Offshore Wind O&M community, and attending relevant industry conferences.
- Liaise with Portfolio Management on reporting, resource requirements, budgets and planning.
- Support the Asset Management team to identify performance improvements and support their implementation and identify lifetime performance risks and support their mitigation.
- Ensure that quality assurance and quality control is embedded within O&M activities.
What do you need to be great at this role?
You will be degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline with comprehensive experience as an O&M project engineer, working on the development of O&M and Asset Management strategies, or experience as an asset manager or engineer on an operational offshore windfarm.
- A technical background in offshore wind farm projects is essential.
- A comprehensive understanding of the O&M and Asset Management requirements of offshore wind turbines and foundations of all types and configurations.
- Ability to evaluate and communicate risks and opportunities, and an ability to propose and implement control and mitigation measures.
- Knowledge of relevant HSE legislation.
- Understanding and experience of HSE requirements and obligations under the CDM regulations (Client, Designer and Principal Contractor).
- The ability to manage contractors and sub-contractors, including commercial and technical aspects, scheduling, and co-ordination of activities.
- Experience of writing technical work scopes, specifications and work plans.
- An ability to review, assess and agree technical proposals, design information & calculations, drawings and documentation.
- An ability to quantitively assess the effectiveness of O&M and Asset Management activities.
- A proven ability to be a proactive member of a multi-disciplinary Project Management/ Construction / Operation & Maintenance Team.
- A proven ability as a self-starter, with an ability to provide technical, construction, logistics and commercial support to the wider Offshore Portfolio Team.
- Experience of using availability modelling software (e.g. Shorelines or similar) and undertaking reliability modelling.
- A NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) qualification is highly desirable.
- GWO certification is desirable.
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to Offshore Wind O&M sites nationally and internationally.
