Engineering Design Lead – Water – Manchester
Due to growth the position of Engineering Design Lead in Water has become available to join our vibrant team based in Manchester

The Engineering & Design Management Team provides multi-discipline engineering team leadership for Costain’s business sectors. We work with our project delivery teams to produce safe by design, sustainable, efficient and competitive projects for our water sector clients which include United Utilities, Southern Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water. Our project engineers provide multi-discipline engineering design coordination across the engineering project lifecycle.

The role reports to the Director of Engineering and will be responsible for supporting our AMP8 growth plan; the operational interface within Costain between the engineering design function and the project and business development teams; functional management of project engineering for the water sector and delivery of engineering design on bids and projects through its people, processes and systems. The role combines functional and line management responsibilities as well as engineering project management on your own projects.

Working arrangement : This is a hybrid role with 2/3 days based at the Manchester office with the option for dynamic working.

Role Requirements
• Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering related subject, chartered engineer and/or APM qualified.
• Significant engineering management experience in a multi-discipline engineering design contracting/consultancy environment in the water sector.
• Significant knowledge and understanding of project controls, scheduling, cost, risk management & project engineering management.
• Significant experience in wastewater/clean water on infrastructure and non infrastructure projects.
• Strong engineering and business systems knowledge with thorough knowledge of the major project delivery process from work winning to project handover.
