What is the Design Engineering Graduate Scheme?
Hinkley Point C will be the largest and most complex nuclear power station ever constructed generating some 7% of the UK’s electricity carbon free.
During our Design Engineering Graduate Scheme you’ll be exposed to our Nuclear New Build business areas as you complete various assignments during the 18-month programme. By the end of it, you’ll be ready to embark on a range of uniquely rewarding design engineer careers in Nuclear Development and will be well on the way to Chartership within your discipline area.
After getting an insight into how we operate in the UK you will then follow a 9-month placement in France embedded within the design organisation (Edvance) or our supplier (Framatome). On your return to the UK you will be part of the HPC team or the new EPR Engineering Business.
This is a really exciting time to be joining the team with the opportunity to work within a fast-paced project environment. The work you do will be key in transforming Hinkley Point C from a complex construction project to an operating nuclear power station.
Training, Development and support for you:
We’re passionate about your development and offer a tailored training path that will help develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours, both during the scheme and in your future career.
Following an induction with graduates from all of our schemes at our state of the art facility, Cannington Court (Somerset) in September 2023, you’ll spend the first 9 months of the scheme working in the South West, where you will spend time at our design office in Bristol.
The final 9 months of your programme will be spent in France but don’t worry, we are committed to helping you with the move and transition to France with support from our dedicated International Mobility team. During the first 6 months we will also provide you with the opportunity to learn French, to support and equip you going on your French placement
Within one year of completion of the programme you’ll be applying the skills and knowledge you have gained as you build your career in engineering. In the longer term you could move on to become one of the Engineers working on the operational site, or one of the design engineers responsible for providing advice and guidance from the technical centre, or perhaps you’ll move on to Sizewell C to support that project as it progresses and be able to apply your experience in numerous areas of EDF Group, not to mention being well on your way to becoming a Chartered Engineer. Where you’ll work:
Locations on scheme will include Aztec West (Bristol), the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre, Bridgwater, and France.
To get the most from our training during the programme you’ll be moving around our EDF offices and site to experience our diverse business. We’ll be on hand with practical and financial support when you relocate. We offer a great work/life balance to support people’s personal lives whilst giving them the opportunity to network an learn.
What you’ll need to apply:
- 2:2 Bachelor’s Degree or a 2:2 Postgraduate Degree (obtained or expected) in any subject relating to Engineering. We’re also open to Electronics, Control Instrumentation, Maths, Physics or Software Engineering.
- Interest to learn French language
- Open to relocate to France as part of the programme
- A genuine interest in nuclear energy
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Keen to solve technical problems
- Able to work well as part of a team and shows collaborative behaviours
For this role, you will need to have and hold security clearance. To satisfy the minimum requirements you will have been a legal UK resident for a minimum of 5 years.
