We have a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Assistant to join our team in Bristol. We are looking for a colleague who is already within this position; or looking to take the next step in your career within the infrastructure sector.  We are open to applications from candidates who live in; or can commute from some of the following areas: Bath, Swindon, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Portishead, Stroud, Stonehouse, Chippenham, Chepstow, Lydney, Newport, Cardiff, Weston Super Mare, Banwell and the surrounding areas

Reporting directly to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Commercial Assistant will join our project team supporting various ongoing infrastructure projects in the Bristol & North Somerset region, but also with other projects that the business wins.

On a day to day basis, the responsibilities of the Commercial Assistant will include the following (not exhaustive):

  • Cost control: e.g., Monitoring all costs to date for the project
  • Keeping accurate and cumulative site costs
  • Supporting the project team with forecast costs
  • Ensuring accurate records of works completed are maintained to include cost records and diaries
  • Auditing subcontract information received such as timesheets, applications and invoices
  • Ensuring timesheets are collated and submitted in a timely manner
  • Providing assistance to management and commercial functions of a project as required
  • Undertaking commercial analysis work as directed for management reporting purposes
  • Ensuring the site team’s produced documentation, notices, timesheets, delivery notes etc. are uploaded on to the online Project cloud portal via SharePoint

Please note that this role is based in Bristol, but you may at times have to travel to one of our other sites in Clevedon, Weston Super Mare & Banwell. Costs will be reimbursed for this and it is desirable that you have a Full UK driving licence. 

The ideal candidate will be a Commercial Assistant who is in receipt of the following:

  • Being able to organise your own workload as well as to work as part of a team and complete tasks independently
  • A strong customer focus and the ability to build relationships
  • Good IT skills specifically on spreadsheets, databases and the ability to adapt to bespoke software packages
  • Good interpersonal skills, with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Although not essential, having experience of Experience of COINS financial management software would prove highly beneficial
