Hinkley Point B power station are recruiting for a Civil engineer to become an integral part of their Engineering team, with principal ownership of the station civil infrastructure.  As our station civil engineer, you will be our technical subject matter expert on civil assets and need to act within compliance of all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices always.

 

Over the last 46 years, Hinkley Point B has generated 311 TWh of low carbon electricity, but has now entered a new phase in its life – defueling and decommissioning. As part of future decommissioning and deconstruction activities, it is anticipated that you will provide significant input and oversight during the removal of redundant civil infrastructure and the construction new buildings that will be essential to the safe evolution of the site.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

 

We can offer a competitive salary ranging from £40,069 – £84,892 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience, and qualifications. 

 

This is a full-time position that, due to its nature, is predominantly site-based. However, we will be happy to discuss options regarding flexible working if you would like to highlight this on your application.

What you’ll be doing

 

As the Station Civil Engineer, your roles and responsibilities will include: 
 

  • Acting as the subject matter expert and single point of contact for all civil engineering activities at Hinkley Point B.
  • Taking responsibility for the integrity of all civil assets on site.
  • Identifying substandard conditions, assessment and documentation of associated risks and identification of cost-effective solutions.
  • Providing guidance and technical oversight to the station facilities management contractor and other key stakeholders involved in maintenance of the site’s civil assets.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and local directives, procedures and safety rules.
  • Liaising with peers in other Engineering groups within the fleet, to share best practise and to continually improve local and fleet performance.
  • Ensuring station documentation and drawings are maintained and accurately reflect design and configuration changes.
  • Monitoring the health of the civil assets through plant walk-downs, inspections and analysis of associated data.

 

Who you are

 

As our next Civil Engineer, you will need to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
 

As a minimum, you will be qualified to HNC level (or equivalent) in civil engineering or a related field of expertise. A degree would be desirable, but not essential.

  • An evolved understanding of civil engineering standards and techniques. 
  • A good communicator, who is able to build relationships across all key technical groups on site and within the wider EDF fleet.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Experience of managing large civil assets within a highly regulated industrial environment is highly desirable.
